Our Nursery Curriculum Here at My
Little Angels Day Nursery we work in accordance with the Early Years Foundation
Framework (EYFS). This forms the key basis of any curriculum for children from
their birth right through to 5 years. Following the EYFS is a statutory
requirement for all nurseries, preschools, childminders and reception classes and
they must follow it. By aligning ourselves with the EYFS, it makes it easy for
our nursery to set a relevant standard of learning, care and development. On
top of this, it supports an integrated approach to early care and learning
within the nursery environment.
Below are
some details about the nursery curriculum we provide to our children. For more

7 Areas of Learning Our team take the time to carefully plan all activities and
learning using the 7 key areas set out in the EYFS. We aim to create individual
and unique plans which are tailored to meet each child’s individual needs and
requirements.
Each of the 7 areas are split into 3 Prime and 4 Specific
areas of learning. Each prime area is important as they lay the key foundations
for success in learning and life. These include:
Communication and Language
Personal, Social and Emotional
Physical
Once a child begins to grow, these prime areas allow them to
develop skills in the 4 specific areas. These specific areas offer a range of opportunities
and experiences for children to widen the knowledge and skills that they have.
These are:
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Art and Design
Themes and Principles Alongside
the 7 key areas, the Early Years Foundation Stage is created using four main
themes. It is these themes that underpin all the EYFS guidance. Below are some
further details about each theme. The Unique Child:
This framework is based around every child being unique and constantly
learning. The aim is for them to become capable, resilient as well as self-assured.
Positive
Relationship:
In supporting relationships and building strong relationships with every child,
it becomes easy for them to learn more about being independent and strong.
Enabling
Environment:
All children develop and learn successfully when placed in enabling
environments. This allows their experiences to respond to their individual
needs. This theme focuses on a strong partnership between parents, practitioners
and careers.
Learning
and Development :
Each child
learns and develops in various different ways. The above framework covers both
care and education for all in early years provision. This includes any children
with disabilities or special educational needs.
Characteristics of Effective Learning 1. Playing and Exploring (Engagement) Focus on finding out and exploring, playing with what they know, and
being willing to ‘have a go’.
This characteristic provides stimulating resources that are both
open-ended and accessible. As a result, they can be used, moved and combined in
a variety of ways, ensuring all resources are relevant to a child’s interests. Our
team encourage all to show curiosity about events, objects and people as well
as use senses to explore the world around them and engage in open-ended
activity.
A flexible indoor and outdoor with space is arranged with
resources that enhance their ability to move, explore, build and role play.
There are also quiet areas for concentration and to limit any noise, keeping a
space visually calm for them to relax in. Our team plans first-hand experiences
allowing children to seek challenges.
2. Active Learning (Motivation) Focus on being involved and concentrating, to keep trying, as well as always
enjoying to achieve what they set out to do.
With this characteristic, all children will be more involved
deeply when you provide something that is unusual and new for them to explore,
especially if it is linked to their specific interests. Each member of our time
can notice what ignites their curiosity and will look for signs of involvement
to identify areas for future learning and motivation. All of our practitioners have
many skills and ensure that all children have the freedom and time they need to
become as involved with activities as they can do. This makes it easy for them
to stay focused over a longer period of time.
We use a scrapbook and tapestry to keep them engaged, help
each child to develop ideas, and take photographs of all activities. Daily
routines are planned and we ensure time and space is always provided for ideas
from the children themselves.
3. Creative and thinking critically (Thinking)
Focus on having their own ideas, making links, and choosing
the best ways to do things.
This is about creating a learning community which is aimed
at how and what we are learning as a group. Doing this enables the children to
express any thought process freely and contribute. This builds confidence by
sharing ideas and also following them through.
When our team are planning activities, we consider opportunities
which help them to find their own ways to develop and represent individual ideas.
We also focus on creating opportunities to play with materials before using
them in planned tasks as well as giving an opportunity to think flexibly and creatively.
Our staff recognises the importance of routines that are predictable as this
enables children to link expressions and provides a secure and safe space for
them to follow ideas and discover.
